Square vs Zeller vs Tyro vs Stripe: what each one actually charges

Every provider's own published Australian rates, as at 14 August 2026, with the annual cost worked out across six combinations of turnover and ticket size. We earn nothing from any of these companies and there are no affiliate links on this page.

Rates as at 14 August 2026. Every figure below is taken from the provider's own published pricing and linked to it. Providers reprice without notice - check the source link before you make a decision on it. Next scheduled review: .

Fresha does not publish an Australian processing rate we could source on 14 August 2026, so it is in the rate card but out of the cost modelling. We will not invent a number to fill the gap.

What that comes to over a year

Six scenarios, 85% taken in person, no international loading. Annual totals including published monthly fees.

No single provider wins outright - it flips with turnover and ticket size (Tyro in 4 of 6, Zeller in 2 of 6). That is exactly why a one-line “best provider” verdict is worthless. Hardware, chargeback and negotiated pricing are excluded - see the calculator's method note.

Fresha vs Square

Square publishes its Australian rates and Fresha does not, so there is no honest winner to hand you. Get Fresha's rate in writing, then put it in the calculator against Square's published figures.

The things a rate comparison will not tell you

  • Settlement timing. When the money actually lands changes your working capital, and it is not priced in a percentage.
  • What it integrates with. A rate you cannot use because it will not talk to your booking system or your POS is not a saving.
  • Support when a terminal dies on a Saturday night. Worth real money in hospitality and almost impossible to compare from a pricing page.
  • Your negotiating position. Published rates are list prices. Above roughly $20k a month, several of these providers publish that they will quote you something else.

Every rate above, and where it comes from

Figures on this page are calculated from these published rates. They are not quotes, and they are not negotiated pricing - check the source before deciding on one.

Once you know the number, the next question is what you do about it

BookMyVenue is booking, ordering and POS software with published pricing and zero commission on every booking. It does not replace your payment provider and it does not change your processing rate - but it does mean the software sitting on top of those payments costs a flat monthly fee instead of a slice of every sale.
